Compilation: Demo Reviews

A demo review is when someone takes  the complete recording of a competative match in TF2 and analyzes the replay. This 2 Part video is a great example of PYYYOUR, a prominent 6’s player reviewing a dmeo of gullywash. Its long but I would reccomend watching it or parts of it if you are interested in 6’s.

This is somethign a little different, a video of one of the best TF@ paleyrs around; b4nny playing a Pick Up Game with the comms included, you can use this to learn about invite level comms along with getting to watch a player of high prestige play the game.

End of Reviews?

Due to the new direction I am trying to take my blog I will no longer be doing weekly game reviews in a text based format. I am trying to take the blog in a different direction. As stated in my recent video, I want to focus more on appealing to a newer audience in competitive TF2. Game reviews are fun and all but they are mainly for old games because I buy games on the steam sale. Instead of doing reviews for games as i previously talked about, i will instead do articles on map strategies and callouts. How to play the competitive 6v6 maps and HL maps is something i wish to teach new players. I will also be doing videos on how to practice, how to improve teamwork. I hope you all are going to enjoy the content i will be producing in the upcoming weeks and apologies for the poor updating schedule, I have been having computer problems and overflows of school work. Hopefully next week will have a more stable release date time. Until then, so long and stay tuned!

Weekly Review: Bioshock Infinite

Bioshock Infinite is the 3rd game of the Bioshock series which expands upon the story of Bioshock and Bioshock 2. The series takes place in the early to mid 19th century somewhere in the U.S where you play as the character Booker DeWitt. The basic premise is that you have been given a job to climb up a lighthouse to find a girl to “wipe away your debt” You climb the lighthouse and are transported in a small air shuttle up into a steampunk flying city. Your goals throughout the game are ever changing due to the sharp turns and thrilling plot of the story taking you on all kinds of different paths, all followed closely by your companion throughout the game Elizabeth. Now that you understand the basic idea, heres my review of Bioshock Infinite.

Gameplay

Bioshock has and most likely always will be a FPS at heart. The basic mechanics of the game involve progressing by navigating areas and killing the enemies that block your way. You start the game with your only weapon is the pistol but soon find more as you progress through the game. Guns are not stored but can be found when dropped by certain enemies that carry them, you have 2 weapon slots so that lets you carry 2 different weapons at a time. The various guns in the game are fun and useful for different scenarios. The carbine takes out enemies accurately with good damage at medium to long ranges and the shotgun is good for clearing out hordes of weak enemies that swarm close to you. Finding new guns in the game is always exciting and executed very well having good spacing in the story between areas where you find different guns and dropping guns for you in places where they will be the most useful. The second aspect to the Bioshock Infinite combat are the vigors. Vigors are the special powers you get along the course of the game by drinking different vials you find. They give you powers you can use in combat such as a fireball you can shoot out, a shock to stun an enemy and even a shield you can deploy that catches bullets and projectiles. The vigors are fairly easy to switch between and add more depth to the combat system, along with more strategy. You might need certain vigors at certain points on a level so you have to conserve your salts which you use to cast the vigor abilities. Image

The one last thing about the gameplay that sets Bioshock Infinite apart from its predecessors is the addition of a companion Elizabeth. Elizabeth is a character that accompanies you the whole game. She never gets in your way and she is helpful in combat, she can throw you additional ammo, salts and health during fights to help you. She cant get killed so you dont have to worry about restarting a mission because you didn’t protect her. Most AI in other games is frustrating and dumb and can take you out of the experience of the game but Elizabeth only adds to the story and the game as a whole. She is truly one of the standing out points of this game. Image

Some complaints I do have about the game are necessary to discuss. The first problem being its shortness; now i get it every game has to end and it was probably for the best that the game went on exactly as long as it did but due to the main draw of the game being the emerging story the replay value isn’t too strong on this one. It feels almost not fair for me to criticize it in this way as I’m writing because i just want more of the game. I wanted it to go on longer but it couldn’t and i resent but respect it for that.

Story

The story of bioshock infinite is something really immersive. I’m not going to talk too much of the story because even if i talk about things that are not technically spoilers it still takes away from the experience of playing it yourself. Each character has real depth to their personalities, there are no plain boring characters with see through motives, each character has their own personality like your talking to real people. They have their own hidden motives and ideas. This stays the same for your character; Booker as you learn not just more about other people but more about yourself as you go on.

Elizabeth is another key point of the story, her character is something that changes the game for the better; it wouldn’t be the same without her. She has a likable personality and you start to genuinely care for her interests the more than your own as the game goes on. Shes helpful, insightful and a great addition to the game.

The ending of the game is something by no means will i talk about due to spoiling it for you but all you need to know is you will be lying in bed working it over in your mind trying to grasp how amazing it was. Image

Summary

Bioshock Infinite was a true gem out of all the FPS games that came out last year. The story was great and immersive and the fighting and gameplay was fluid and fun. i would recommend this game to anyone interested remotely as you will greatly enjoy it.

Bioshock Infinite gets a 9/10
